Vestereng
Aarhus N
Vestereng Forest is nearby Christiansbjerg og Skejby.
A walk around Vestereng forest offers more than just trees. Here are bunkers from the time of the war and large meadows, which for many years laid the foundation for the big concerts in Aarhus.
If you go for a walk in the forest on Sunday, you can get the experience of one of the many role-playing games that the Live role-playing association Einherjerne makes in the forest. The Einherjerne is also one of Denmark's oldest role-playing associations.
The bunkers in Vestereng
Something that you can't help but notice are the many bunkers around the forest. Vestereng was formerly a military area and was used as an exercise area by the Garrison in Aarhus.
During the war, the area was occupied by the Germans, who built a large bunker complex and lots of bunkers around the forest. After the war, the bunkers were used to store ammunition and the soldiers stood guard here.
The large meadow area
At the end of the forest you come to a large meadow area. Vestereng is incredibly varied and it provides living conditions for a rich birdlife. If you are interested in insects, you will find many of them in the area, especially the rarer ones.
Right here at the end of the forest you can look over at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby. In the large meadow area, large concerts were previously held here.
However, after the hospital was expanded, it became a bit of a challenge. Both noise problems and the difficulty for ambulances to arrive when the music was playing meant that the place was closed down as a concert area.

The club is Denmark's largest and there is also plenty of space to practice the sport on the 17 courts.
