Tangkrogen is much more than a beach
Most Aarhusians know Tangkrogen for the big events that fill the area every year with food stalls, concerts and thousands of people. But most of the year it is something completely different. A large green area overlooking the Aarhus Bay, where there is room for a swim, a walk along the water or a few quiet hours in the sun.
Tangkrogen is located between Marselisborg Marina and Strandvejen, and from here it is only a few minutes' walk to both Den Uendelige Bro and Marselisborg Skovene.
Beach life with plenty of space
When the weather is at its best, Aarhusians head down to Tangkrogen. Some take a dip, others play ball on the grass or fire up the grill, while children catch crabs along the edge.
The beach is shallow and has a sandy bottom, and the large grassy areas mean that there is usually plenty of space, even on busy summer days.
All of Aarhus gathers here
Tangkrogen is one of the places in the city that changes the most throughout the year. One week it is quiet with exercisers, dog walkers and people walking around the bay. The next week the area can be filled with festival tents, concertgoers or long rows of vendors.
The Food Festival and Aarhus Flea Market have been among the recurring events for many years, and the area has also hosted everything from concerts and circuses to large outdoor events.
A walk past the marina
The southern part of Tangkrogen almost imperceptibly merges into Marselisborg Marina. Here, small boats are moored next to each other, and along the quay you will find benches where you can sit and enjoy the view over the water.
Many people choose to combine their visit to Tangkrogen with a walk around the harbor or an ice cream from the kiosk before continuing along the coast.
A good stop on the trip along the coast
Tangkrogen may not be Aarhus' most classic beach, but it's the mix of beach, green areas and the maritime atmosphere that makes the place special. Here you can swim, relax or just enjoy the view of the bay, and at the same time you have several of the city's popular experiences right nearby.
