Trøjborg and Risskov
Riis skov is a large urban forest in Århus and is located no more than 15 minutes from the center of Århus between Trøjborg og Rice forest.
The forest is incredibly popular and many people in Aarhus go for walks or run in the forest. In the forest you also have the most beautiful view over the bay of Aarhus.
The forest changes throughout the year and in the spring the entire forest floor is covered with Ramsløg, which you are welcome to pick.
Rii's forest is widest in the part that lies by the Risskov district. The closer you get to Trøjborg, the narrower the forest becomes.
In order not to run around confused in the forest and not know where you are going, there is a good path system throughout Rii's forest.
Ramsløg in Rii's forest
If you go for a walk in the forest from March to May, you will find that the entire forest floor is covered with edible rams' onions. The onions can be eaten raw in salads or cooked in dishes. Several of the city's eateries get the onions from Rii's forest and use them in their dishes.
Picking for own consumption is permitted. But remember to smell the plant first so you don't pick the wrong one. The smell should be very reminiscent of garlic. Going for a walk in Rii's forest when the ramsons are in bloom is an attraction for many in Aarhus.

Parking
Parking spaces at Sjette Frederiks Kro, Salonvejen 1, 8240 Risskov, which is in the forest.
Public transport

Bus 1A | 17 stops on Grenåvej by the forest.
Public toilets
There are no public toilets in the forest.
Dog forest
In the southern part of the forest, your dog can run freely. That is, of course, as long as you have control over the dog.

There is an outdoor fitness area at the end of Rii's forest in Trøjborg.

You can walk from the city center and to Rii's forest via Dronning Margrethes Vej or the marina.
At Risskov you can enter the forest from Rolighedsvej and Grenåvej.
Ferdinand Square
At Ferdinansplads, which lies inside the forest, stands a beautiful old pavilion. It was built at the beginning of the 1800th century, but burned down in 1991. However, it has since been rebuilt and renovated in the original style.

The tumble place
Not far from Ferdinansplads is Tumlepladsen. If you have kids, this is definitely a place to take the kids. Here they can entertain themselves for a few hours on the nature playground.
The area is very popular among the city's institutions and is often full of children. There are both barbecues and shelters set up.
Memorial stone
On the path that runs along the water you will pass two smaller stones, with a large stone in the middle. The stones commemorate the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Queen Margrethe I in 1412. An inscription is carved into all 3 stones.
It is also on the same path that you can see a memorial stone that tells about one of the two meteorite stones that were found in Århus in 1951 on this very square. The stone is today stored at the Geological Museum in Copenhagen.
The view over the bay and Aarhus Island
You get a clear sense of the fact that the forest is high in levels if you walk along the path that runs alongside the water. Here you have the most beautiful view over the bay.
The closer you get to the end of the forest, the more you get a fantastic view of Århus Island and Århus Marina.
That the area here is a popular vantage point is clearly shown by the large crude seating boards that are set up with a view over the harbour.
The lawn at the end of the forest
The forest ends with the large open area where you can also buy coffee. If you feel like getting a little sweat on your forehead, there is also the option of outdoor training with the equipment set up next to the lawn.
It is also here that you will find the area with the small wooden houses.
Animals in Rii's forest
In Rii's forest you can see the mice darting across the forest floor and in the part of the forest that goes towards Risskov there is a tree inhabited by an owl. The owl tree is relatively easy to find, because there are almost always people standing and looking up at the tree.
