Here's your quick overview of the newest eateries and bars that opened in March and April in Aarhus. Kick off your shoes, fire up the grill, or grab a cocktail on tap.

Café Broløs: Color party and secret cellar on Klostertorvet

The new chapter on Klostertorvet has officially been written by Café Broløs, and if you're missing color in your life, this is your new go-to base. Outside on the cobblestone streets, you'll be welcomed with classic white café chairs under the striking yellow 'BROLØS' sign, perfect for soaking up the spring sunshine. But do yourself a favor and step inside and see what's hidden. The decor is a bold homage to the joy of color with purple carpets and an impressive disco ball that spreads flashes of light throughout the room.

Don't fool yourself into taking the stairs downstairs, though. The basement is a whole other world, a secret lounge area where all the hustle and bustle disappears. Here you'll find the giant, snaking orange sofa, made for relaxing, surrounded by raw, artistic portraits and a large aquarium. It's unpretentious, surprising and exactly the quirky touch that Aarhus needs. Set aside a few relaxing hours; the basement is a must-see.

Alma taqueria: Mexican street cuisine and artistic soul in Klostergade

If you're looking for authentic and colorful Mexican atmosphere, Klostergade has a new ace up its sleeve with the opening of Alma taqueria. This hip kitchen offers much more than just food; it offers a total experience. When the sun shines, there's plenty of informal coziness planned on the outdoor seating, but don't miss out on stepping inside and experiencing the spectacular setting.

The walls have been transformed into gigantic, brightly colored canvases, painted by Aarhus artist Emil Kock. The powerful paintings with both eagles and figural motifs stand in stunning contrast to the raw, simple interior with the dark tables and simple chairs. It’s a mix of art gallery vibe and relaxed taco shop. Also take a trip down to the basement towards the toilet, where you’ll find an iconic red wall adorned with a neon sign that casts a calm, blue light over the text: “good vibes only”. It’s details like these that make Alma a unique stop on your trip around Aarhus.

Woodys: Light, warmth and informal coziness in Gammel Munkegade

If you are looking for a place where Scandinavian minimalism meets warm living room coziness, then you should stop by Woodys in Gammel Munkegade. The first thing that strikes you when you step inside is the fantastic light. The large windows facing Klostergade ensure that the room is bathed in daylight, creating a light and airy atmosphere from the morning.

The interior is completed with warm wooden furniture and cognac-colored leather sofas, inviting you to stay a little longer over your coffee or lunch. At the long wooden counter you will find a selection of cold specialty beers from Svaneke Bryghus, and the many small details, such as the candles and the fine ceramic cups on the shelves, complete the experience of a place where attention to detail is appreciated without it becoming stiff. Outside, you will also find good places to experience city life while enjoying the informal atmosphere that the Woodys team has managed to create in the bright rooms.

Seoul Korean BBQ: A bite of Korea on Store Torv

If you've been past Store Torv 11 recently, you may have noticed that Aarhus has a new gastronomic heavyweight. Seoul Korean BBQ has landed with a bang, and they've taken over one of the city's most central locations. Although the restaurant spans several floors, the ground floor is the first to be opened, an impressively large space with room for a lot of guests. The other floors are expected to open in the coming months as the concept really takes hold in the city center.

The interior is complete with dark tables, wicker chairs and beautiful murals that send thoughts straight to South Korea. Each table is equipped with its own grill station and a state-of-the-art extractor hood, so you can control the preparation of your meat in just the right setting. The golden plates and small tablets at the tables emphasize that this is a modern dining experience, where technology and tradition merge. It is the obvious place to go if you are a larger group looking for a social and interactive dinner in the middle of Aarhus.

Freddies English Pub: Sports, pints and panoramic views by the river

Where the iconic clothing store Solid used to be, a completely different kind of life has now moved in. Freddies English Pub has taken over the central corner at Åboulevarden 39, and they have created a modern interpretation of the classic English pub. The first thing you notice is the large, open space, which thanks to the enormous windows provides a fantastic view directly out to the life by the river and Magasin.

The interior design strikes the perfect balance between cozy and functional. Here you will find dark wood paneling, patterned wallpaper and soft, dark green leather sofas that invite you to spend many hours together. For sports enthusiasts, the walls are strategically equipped with TV screens, so you never miss an important match, while the foosball table is ready for those who want to join in the fight themselves. In the bar you will find an impressive selection of over 16 different beer taps, ranging from local favorites to international classics. Whether you come for the sport, a pitcher of draft beer or just to enjoy the view from the outdoor seating, Freddies has brought a solid portion of pub culture to the heart of Aarhus.

JOJO: Analog vibes and cocktails on tap by the river

If you're looking for a place where time stands still while the cocktails flow quickly, then JOJO at Åboulevarden 64 is your new go-to. There are no predictable playlists here; the music is controlled by an authentic record player, where the record is turned manually when the last track has finished playing. This creates a very special, intimate atmosphere in the cozy, quirky premises.

The concept is as sharp as the price: Cocktails on tap for only 50 kr., which makes it possible to taste your way through the selection without emptying your pocket. But it is especially the informal atmosphere that wins. Especially at the end of the week, JOJO is buzzing with life, and there are no rigid table plans here. You just grab a chair and sit down wherever there is space, even if it is in one of the more awkward places in the room. Outside, you will find perfect seating in the middle of the vibrant life of the river, where you can enjoy your drink in the spring sun. JOJO is the unpretentious counterpart to the city's fine cocktail bars, where coziness and good music are always the focus.

The Living Room on the Left: Raw concrete and playful details in Sydhavnen

At the bottom of the striking Akson building you will find Stuen Til Venstre, a modern living room nestled in the middle of the raw Sydhavn quarter. The space is large and open with high ceilings and raw concrete walls that play perfectly with the area's industrial history. But don't be fooled by the raw exterior; inside, the creative and fun touches are turned up to the max.

The most striking feature is undoubtedly the enormous Pac-Man on the wall, ingeniously constructed from hundreds of yellow ping-pong balls. It's details like this, along with the striped awning and retro poster columns, that give the place its very own character. During the day, there's a calm atmosphere with lots of light from the large windows, but when Friday rolls around, Stuen TV transforms into the district's favorite gathering spot. Here, the raw frames fill with people for a Friday bar, while beer flows from the taps and conversation flows over the massive wooden tables. It's the perfect place to experience the new wave of Aarhus' urban development at eye level.

Lighthouse Burgers: Juicy burgers and sea views on Aarhus Ø

Aarhus Ø has a new destination for burger enthusiasts, and the location couldn't be much better. Lighthouse Burgers has moved into Irma Pedersens Gade 130. The first thing that greets you is an extremely bright and inviting space, where the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows let in daylight and give you an uninterrupted view of both the water and life on Aarhus Ø.

The interior exudes a modern coastal vibe with a personal edge. An entire wall is dedicated to an inspiring photo collage with motifs ranging from classic cars and surfers to maritime portraits, giving the place a relaxed “beach club” vibe. The soft sofa arrangements and light wooden furniture invite you to take a break from everyday life while enjoying one of their signature burgers. Whether you choose to sit inside the stylish space or move out to the sunny seats in front of the restaurant, Lighthouse Burgers is the perfect stop on your walk along the harbor. This is where informal dining and the best view in the city merge.
