The music at NorthSide, a mix of genres and artists

NorthSide Festival was this year a mix of musical genres, giving the audience a unique opportunity to explore new styles and discover new favorite bands. Each day's program was carefully selected to offer a wide range of music to suit every taste and mood.

Thursday's lineup introduced the audience to a mix of indie, pop, and electronic music. Among other things, we had the opportunity to experience the soft indie-pop band Cavetown, R&B and hip-hop from Phlake, and the rock tones from Nothing but Thieves. And the evening was rounded off with a fire show from the world-famous band Muse.

Friday's program offered a real party, with genres ranging from hip-hop with Pusha T and JPEGMAFIA, to the unique sound of The Vegetable Orchestra, and all the way to the electronic dance scene with Claptone and The Chemical Brothers. Nik & Jay also got the crowd off their seats with their energetic performance.

Saturday's lineup was just as exciting. We were taken on a musical journey that ranged from Yemi Alade's authentic African tones, to the Danish pop scene with Lukas Graham, and further into the electronic dance world with Purple Disco Machine.

DThis article is not a review of the various artists and stage shows, but only a selection of the musical experiences that NorthSide could offer.

Flake

Phlake, a Danish R&B duo consisting of Jonathan Elkær and singer Mads Bo entertained the festival guests on the ASTRA stage on Thursday at 17. NorthSide was not completely filled with all guests yet, but it was still a good turnout for the concert.

LP

On the ECCO stage and late into the evening on Thursday, the American singer-songwriter Laura Pergolizzi, better known as LP, gave the audience an experience with her powerful voice and very unique style. Both the LP and the guitarist really caught the eye with the rocking look. LP has written hits for stars such as Rihanna and Cher, where her own is more towards indie rock and pop.

Tobias Rahim

The Århus boy, Tobias Rahim opened the evening on the ASTRA stage and wearing gold clothes that shone like the sun, he sang the classic "sing with songs that the audience knew from his albums" He got the audience dancing halay folk dance and also put into words some of the difficult times that he had had in life. 

The Electra tent

NorthSide also offered a true DJ extravaganza in the Electra tent. Colorful laser lights lit up the tent cloth while techno bass filled the air. It was a feast for all the senses, where the audience was sucked into an energy of music.

Muse

The English rock band and one of the main names at the festival, Muse took the main stage ASTRA on Thursday evening and thus ended the first day, with strong stage lights and fire.

Little Simz

Little Simz rapped his way into the hearts of Aarhusians on Friday afternoon on the ECHO stage and also received great praise from the reviewers for his performance. Her music spans different genres such as hip hop, R&B and neo-soul. Little Simz is known for his raw honesty and fearless attitude in his lyrics, which often explore complex and social issues. 

Benjamin Hav

and Familien entertained guests on the ASTRA stage broadcast on Friday afternoon. Here he had brought a wide range of musicians who play in other well-known Danish bands and it relied on both humor and honest stories from life. 

Nick & Jay

One of the Danish main names Nik & Jay gave the whole NorthSide an experience on Friday evening with their iconic pop hits on the ASTRA stage. Many had been ready an hour and a half before the concert and they were not disappointed. It was also clear to see both boys on stage that they were touched by the reception they got at Northside.

Gilly

On Saturday afternoon, the audience had an experience on the ECHO stage, with the Danish rapper Gilli, who is one of the most streamed Danish artists. Many of the 30.000 festival guests in attendance had moved down to the stage area and for just over an hour they were musically entertained by the Danish rapper.

So there we have it, three days packed with music from all ends of the spectrum.
Whether you're into rock, pop, techno or an exotic mix, NorthSide delivered a festival experience that hit all the right notes. It has been a memorable 3-day trip, and it will be exciting to see what NorthSide has on the program for next year. Until then - keep the music alive and the dancing going.
