The story behind Mølleparken
The Mill Park was built in 1926 on the site of the former Aarhus Mill. Although the mill and the old half-timbered houses have now been moved to Den Gamle By, the history lives on in the park's name.
Today, the area is a green urban space, where the Aarhus River runs along the edge of the park, and where lawns, trees and seating areas form a natural transition between the city center and the river.
Active leisure in the middle of Aarhus
Mølleparken is one of the parks in Aarhus where there is almost always activity. The basketball court is frequently used, and students and friends gather at the cast concrete tables to play chess, card games, and board games.
If you don't have a game of your own, you can borrow various games from the nearby Rejsecafé before you find a spot in the park.
Art between trees and lawns
Around Mølleparken you will find several works of art. At one end are busts of Danish authors, while the large steel sculpture Snake is the park's most striking work of art.
The sculpture was first shown during Sculpture by the Sea in 2013 and moves easily in the wind. With ARoS and Your rainbow panorama in the background, it is also one of the most photographed places in the park.
Life along the Aarhus River
In the summer, Mølleparken is filled with flowering beds, people on blankets and visitors enjoying the sun along the Aarhus River. The large wooden terraces by the water are popular for a lunch break or a cup of coffee, while the river creates a calm contrast to the city's busy streets.
During Aarhus Festival Week, parts of the park are transformed into a concert area and gathering point for some of the festival's biggest events.
