Langenæs
8000 Aarhus C
Langenæs is a district in Århus C, located at Marselis Boulevard, Skanderborgvej, Sdr. Ringgade and Jernbanetrénet. For the almost 7000 inhabitants, it is an area with large green areas, grocery stores, daycare centers, hairdressers and bakers.
The district is relatively new and is closely connected to Frederiksbjerg. Langenæs came up with the design plan in the 1940s. If Langenæs does appear in some of the history books, then it refers to some high cliffs that lay by the Ringgadebroen.
The slopes disappeared when the railway grounds were expanded in the 1920s. But for the Langenæs district, it was named after the disappeared slopes.
Apartments at Langenæs
It is not here that you will find detached houses and villas. Here are high-rise buildings and apartment buildings such as public housing, owner-occupied and cooperative housing.
Between the tall buildings are large green areas, which help to give the district a sense of calm, even though it is located in the middle of Aarhus. All properties are located so that they have access to the green areas, which are used extensively.
For example, you will find Langenæshus, which consists of 3 high-rise buildings, where you must be over 40 to be able to get an apartment. And in Langenæshus there is both a local restaurant and grocery store for the residents of the houses.

The schools and the red high-rise
In addition to Langenæshus, there is both a nursing home and a number of daycare centers. The oldest is Langenæsen from 1960, which is a daycare center for 0-6 year olds. And a few years ago, the Læssøesgade school boarding school was built. Enrollment is a department of Folkeskolen at Frederiksbjerg. In school enrollment, there is an after-school program, an enrollment department, day care and teacher preparation for 300 children.
A well-known landmark in Langenæs and known to many in Århus, is the red high-rise building that lies along Sdr. Ringgade. The building has 17 floors and is 55 meters high. When it was built back in 1971, it was Denmark's tallest brick building. Today, the two lower floors are used for businesses, while the other floors are for private living. The building has a total of 90 apartments. In 1992, however, it became necessary to cover the house with aluminum sheets due to moisture.
The city park at Langenæs
In the middle of the district you will find Langenæsparken. At first glance it looks like a small city park, but when you pass the football field, where the Århus 1900 football club is based, the rest of the park appears. If you follow the path next to the foosball court, you will reach the rest of the park.
In Langenæsparken you can take the fruit basket with you and fill it with apples, cherries and berries from the bushes. Or lie comfortably on the barbecues set up and have a picnic. It is residents from Langenæs who have helped to plant the various bushes in the park and they are also the ones who look after the beds.
If you go for a walk in the park when the fruit can be picked, you are welcome to go for yourself.
A section of the park is planted with wild flowers, which must be picked for the vase at home. In fact, Langenæsparken can resemble a large communal garden. Here you help to keep the garden and take home when the fruits and berries appear on the trees and bushes.
Purchasing options
There are several grocery stores in Langenæs. At Sønderborggade is Let-køb and several take away restaurants.
At Skanderborgvej you will find both Meny and Fakta and the bakery shops MIB and Lagkagehuset.
Lagkagehuset took over the local bakery in 2018. Here you can get the incredibly popular Aros bread, which was baked by the former baker. Lagkagehuset is open every day from 6 a.m. to 18 p.m.
In addition, there are hairdressers, a flower shop and dentists in Langenæs.
