JOJO has landed in Aarhus: Cocktails on tap and sunshine at Åboulevarden
If you've taken a walk along the river today, you may have noticed that new life has come to number 64. The successful Copenhagen bar JOJO has just opened the doors to their biggest venture yet, and I was there for the opening day to feel the atmosphere for you.
The first thing that greets you when you enter the raw space is an overwhelming welcome. When I dropped by just 20 minutes after opening, I was immediately handed a card for a free drink. It's a brilliant way to let you taste the product right away, and it quickly created a good energy in the room, where all guests received the same warm welcome. It's a good idea on an opening day that you get to taste what they can do behind the bar.
A location in the heart of the city
You won't find a much better location than here. JOJO is located right in the middle of the river, just a few meters from Magasin. This is where both tourists and locals gather to enjoy the outdoors, and with the large outdoor seating area, the foundation is laid for your next busy summer evening.
The interior is complete with a large bar and the characteristic turntable at the entrance, which is a testament to the place's musical DNA. Although the bar extends over several floors, I chose to stay on the ground floor. Here you can sit very close to the entrance and enjoy the rays of the sun streaming in through the door, while you watch life on what is probably Aarhus' most famous stretch of road.
Cocktails for a fifty-something
What really sets JOJO apart from many of the other places in town is their concept of cocktails on tap. This means you never have to wait long for your drink, and the quality is right on point every time. But the most interesting thing is the price.
On a menu that includes everything from Spicy Margarita to Basil Smash, all drinks cost 50 kr. It's a price you and your friends can afford, and that makes it hard not to predict the place will be a quick success.
The staff behind the bar are also incredibly sweet and good at guiding you through the many temptations. If you love sweet drinks like I do, you should do yourself a favor and try their Takamango. It's made with mango, coconut and rum, and it tastes exactly what it promises. You get a perfectly balanced sweetness with a nice aftertaste that sends your thoughts straight to warmer climes.
More to come
Today's visit was just a quick taste of what JOJO has to offer. I didn't even get to explore the other floors of the 300 square meters, but the atmosphere on the ground floor made me want to see much more.
I'll be back soon, where I've arranged an interview with the team behind JOJO. Here you can read more about their journey from Copenhagen to Aarhus, and what they have planned for your nightlife in the city. Until then, you can drop by Åboulevarden and find your own favorite on the extensive menu.
