At the cinema with children during the summer holidays: Family summer at Vue Bruuns

It's summer vacation, the children have time off and the calendar needs to be filled with experiences.

At Vue Bruuns, the experience doesn't start when the cinema hall goes dark and the film starts. The experience starts when you stand at the kiosk and have to decide which candy and soda you want to bring into the hall. It starts when you have to find your row and who wants to sit next to whom. It starts when the footrest has to be raised and the seat has to be moved back.

What the offer is about

Until September 16th, Vue is running the Family Summer campaign. Adults pay child prices for selected family films before 19 pm when accompanied by a child under 12. This corresponds to a minimum of 30 kroner saved per adult ticket.

The program is broad-ranging for children of all ages.

Why the afternoon show is the right one

The offer is valid before 19.00 p.m. And it's also really good when you're away as a family.

A morning performance on a rainy day is just about the best there is. An afternoon trip, when the summer heat gets too much, is almost as good. An hour and a half in the dark, where no one needs anything.

The seats matter more than you think

Vue Bruuns reopened earlier this year after a five-month renovation. When we visited the cinema, it wasn't the laser projection that we went home thinking about.
Those were the seats. The classic cinema seats are gone. Instead, you sit in an armchair with a footrest and a small table in front.

And the footrest actually makes a difference. Your legs no longer hang in the air when you're a kid, and it's easy to lean back in the chair. The table means the popcorn doesn't have to be balanced on your lap for an hour and a half.

And where is the best place to sit in the auditorium to get the most out of it? Cinema manager Emma Hammerholt sits a few rows below the middle of the auditorium. That's where the sound is best, she says.

What lies beneath

There's something about sitting in the dark with your family. No phone. No screen, each of you. Just a screen and an hour and a half, all looking in the same direction.

Afterwards, there's usually a conversation in the car that wouldn't have happened otherwise. About why Woody did what he did. About whether Moana was scared. The kind of questions that come when we've all had time to think.

That's not why Vue created the campaign. But that's probably why it works.
