Free concerts in Musikhusparken: See the summer program for 2026

The grass in Musikhusparken is still new, the trees haven't grown big yet, and the place hasn't really settled into rhythm yet. But this summer the park will be put to the test in earnest. Musikhusparken has put over 45 free events on the agenda between late May and late August, and most of them take place outside, under the open sky, and without requiring a ticket.

The Jazz Festival takes over

From June 26 to July 5, the park transforms into a jazz festival. These are the official concerts of the Aarhus Jazz Festival, and this is where you will find the summer's biggest musical names in the park.

The American-Danish double bassist and singer Kristin Korb plays with her trio on June 30. She sings as she plays, with great warmth.
July 3rd is coming Ida Nielsen, bassist from Prince's last band, to the park with a funk-driven set that will probably be the party of the evening. On the same day, Buki Yamaz, one of the most interesting voices in new Danish jazz.

Among these names are Bjarke Falgren Quartet, Kosmos Trio, Easy Living and Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra. If you are only after one day, choose Friday, July 3. If you can take two days, add Tuesday, June 30.

Classic under the open sky

The classic Summer in the Park has three major voices. Opera in the Park on June 20th the season opens with a large outdoor opera program, and it's the kind of evening you bring a blanket, a bottle of wine and a good friend. Later in the summer comes Classic on grass (from August 9) and Classic Tuesday (from August 11), and both are exactly what the names suggest. You sit in the grass and the music comes to you.

Nordic bright nights starts as early as June 2nd and plays several times. It is a concert series in the brightest time of the year, with Nordic chamber music, and it is one of those experiences where the atmosphere carries the program as much as the music.
If you only go to one classical event, choose Opera in the Park. These are the kinds of evenings that are remembered.

When the children are going with

The program is well thought out for families too.
Signs & Jazz, (from June 30) lets children draw while musicians play, and it works surprisingly well. The Organ Lab and the Drum Animal, July 1st is children's jazz with character. Street Parade, on June 27th there is a jazz parade through the city, and Conclave, July 3rd is family-friendly jazz.

Screen-free Sunday, May 31st and June 7th is not a concert, but an afternoon in the park where the phones are put away. It's a great place to start the summer if you're a family that needs an excuse to do absolutely nothing together.

Dance in the park

Aarhus has a new dance festival. It is Aarhus Summer Dance, which will be performed on August 15-16, as a collaboration between Musikhuset, Bora Bora and Danish Dance Theatre, and it is the second time that the city has had a festival dedicated to dance on this scale.

Royal Summer Ballet, June 18th is a completely different thing. It's the Royal Danish Theatre's summer tour, and it's a rare chance to see ballet dancers of the highest level for free in the open air. Get there early, it usually draws a crowd.

The quiet mornings

Morning song in the park, June 24th is exactly what it sounds like. You show up in the morning, sing along to the hymn, and go about your day.

Jazz yoga, in Musikhusparken from June 30th the same logic follows, yoga to live jazz, outdoors and of course free.

Both are worth trying at least once, even if it's not your normal style.

Comedy, talk and weird features

Comedy in the park, starts August 12th and plays 3 times. You can see who is on stage in the link. The format is free stand-up under the open sky, and it usually works really well. Talk & Jazz, on June 30th is a conversation with musicians between concerts, more intimate than a lecture.

Nyborg FM, On August 22nd, the summer ends with a live radio program from the park. It's Jesper Nyborg in his element, and it's typically an afternoon when the park is filled with people who just want to listen to good radio together.
The Troubadour's Great Garden Partyt, from August 13th, is the most festive end of the summer, with well-known rock classics and singing.

The practical

All events are free and take place either in the Musikhusparken or in the foyer of the Musikhus in case of bad weather. You do not need a ticket or reservation, but some of the big nights fill up quickly, so arrive early.
The café area is open all summer with food, coffee, cold drinks and gin & tonic, so you can linger even after the events.

My recommendation

Put jazz week, June 26 to July 5, on your calendar now.

Add Opera in the Park, June 20th, and Aarhus Summer Dance, August 15th-16th, next to it.

And use the morning song, June 24th, as an excuse to find out what the park really feels like in the morning.

The rest you can take as it comes. That's the point of a park in the middle of the city.
