Aarhus is a popular city for new immigrants and every year many thousands of new students come to the city to start a degree. However, it is not only students who move to Aarhus. Immigrants come here from all over the country of all ages, from young people to pensioners. For everyone, it's about breaking the fixed framework and moving life up, to start somewhere new.

When you start an education, it is relatively easy for most people to build up a circle of friends and acquaintances. Here you will be met by fellow students and network offers targeted at students. But if you move to Aarhus in connection with a job or because you are looking for a new job, then finding a new circle of friends quickly becomes a somewhat greater challenge.

For some, the reason for suddenly standing and needing a new network can also be divorce after many years of marriage. Sometimes friends drop out in that connection and you find yourself in a situation where you have to start all over again with building friendships.

Avoid loneliness in your new life

If you already know one or two when you've moved to Aarhus, use them as your rock at first. Take them around the city, to events and through this get to know Aarhus a little better. It can give you an opportunity to build up a circle of friends, while at the same time you still have some security in the form of people you already know.

If you are completely new and have to start from scratch, there are still plenty of opportunities to make a new circle of friends. If you have just moved to the city, it is important that you get out quickly among others.

Here it is a good idea, even before your move, to investigate what opportunities are available via Facebook groups, if you play sports or have an interest in a special area. In addition, there are groups for both singles and if you are in a relationship, where people meet regularly for various events. Here you can make a post about yourself and what you are looking for. Or you can simply follow other people's posts and sign up for what you think suits your taste.

Both FO and FOA offer evening courses, where there is also an obvious opportunity to get out and meet others, at the same time that you will of course also upgrade your knowledge.

If you first get really comfortable on the sofa, getting out the door can be a bit more of a challenge and excuses can quickly become commonplace. There are lots of Facebook groups in Aarhus for pretty much anything you want to participate in. In some of the groups you can go on city walks. It gives you both an opportunity to get to know Aarhus well, both with art and culture, and you get a sense of security by moving around a larger city and not getting lost.

If you prefer to go around the city on your own, there are also plenty of opportunities to get in touch with people. If you yourself are welcoming, Aarhusians are quick to welcome you. Sit on one of the many benches around the city, take a walk in one of the parks or by the harbor and you can hardly avoid meeting people with whom you can strike up a conversation. People in Aarhus love to be outside and stay all over the city.
