Seven women stand together on stage. Their voices rise in joik, their bodies move in formations, and the room is filled with a force that awakens the connection to both nature and people.
In VÁSTÁDUS EANA / The Answer Is Land, choreographer Elle Sofe Sara creates a ceremonial journey where Sámi rituals, political demonstrations and hypnotic dance merge. The performance bridges the gap between past and present, between individual and community – and reminds us that we are all in relation to the living land.
The multi-part joik, composed by Frode Fjellheim, carries the performance and gives it a musical strength that lingers long after the last note. Fjellheim, known as the composer behind the opening music to the Disney film Frozen, shows the power and breadth of the joik in a work created specifically for the seven dancers and performers on stage.
VÁSTÁDUS EANA was first shown at Bora Bora during The Gender House Festival in 2024 and now returns to meet an even larger audience.
