Take a trip back to the 1970s in the Old Town

Step into a decade filled with community, music and a retro vibe. When Den Gamle By invites you to 70s weekends in September, you can experience everything from communal living and Bob Dylan to wide-leg pants, yo-yos and moped hooligans in the streets.

Living history and meetings with residents
Explore the 1974 neighborhood, where you can greet the postman or chat with the driver in the bubble. Look inside the apartments – from the nuclear family and the hippie couple to the collective and guest worker homes.

Experiences in the streets
The moped exhibition Freedom on Two Wheels brings back the two-wheeled freedom of the 70s. In the streets you can meet moped thugs, hear vintage cars roar and enjoy music from the street musician playing hits from the 60s and 70s.

Activities for young and old
Visit the 70s creations in the Kreativiteltet and try your hand at DIY, play with hula hoops, skip or jump in a bungee. And for 20 kr you can take a ride in the iconic VW Beetle and hear the special sound of the boxer engine (not 13-14 September).

Shops, workshops and tastes from the 70s
See the butcher shop, Pouls Radio, Gottlieb Blomster and Rahbeks Minimarked – or experience backyard workshops with plumbing, bicycles and mopeds. In Gæstgivergården you can enjoy retro dishes such as shrimp cocktail and lemon fromage, get open sandwiches in Winekes Kælder or Napoleon cakes in Konditoriet. And remember – Skærslipperen is ready to give your own knives new life.

Music and atmosphere
Stop by Bent J and experience live jazz and the legendary “Aarhus set.” The atmosphere is complete when 70s music flows through the streets.
