Midsummer on Aarhus Island

You can start looking forward to one of the coziest traditions of the summer when Aarhus Ø on June 23rd forms the setting for an atmospheric Midsummer Eve. The coastal promenade will be filled with life, and you will have the unique experience of watching the large bonfire blaze out on the water while you enjoy the community on land.

You can look forward to an evening where everything has been thought of. You can buy delicious, grilled sausages and cold drinks from the stalls on the harbor promenade, so you don't have to worry about dinner at home. It's completely free to participate, and the atmosphere by the water's edge is the perfect way to celebrate midsummer with your friends, neighbors or family.

Program for Midsummer at Aarhus Ø

• Kl. 16.00
  The afternoon begins with activities for children and families at UNO Friluftscenter in the green area at Aarhus International Sailing Center. Here you can try crab fishing, learn about life below the surface and experience various activities with a focus on the sea and nature. There will also be the opportunity to buy food and drinks at the stalls.
• Kl. 17.30
  Today's children's bonfire will be lit in the area at the Sailing Center.
• Kl. 18.00
  The Midsummer celebration on Aarhus Ø officially begins, and the stalls open for tonight's guests.
• Kl. 20.00
  The Aarhus Harmoniorkester provides a musical atmosphere at Jette Tikøbs Plads.
• Kl. 20.00
  The traditional wooden ship Esther Jensen docks as a floating stage in the basin.
• Kl. 21.30
  The evening's bonfire speech will be given by Aarhus' mayor Anders Winnerskjold from the deck of Esther Jensen.
• At 9:45 p.m. (approx.)
  The floating Midsummer bonfire is lit on the water.
• At 9:45 p.m. (approx.)
  Singer Naura performs the Midsummer Carol and gives a concert from the floating stage.

  The evening's program is rounded off.

Practical information

• Food and drink: Grilled sausages, bread, draft beer and water are sold on the promenade.
• Transportation: You are encouraged to take your bike or walk as there is limited parking.
• Public transport: City bus 3A stops approximately 100 meters from the sailing center.
• Parking: Public spaces on Aarhus Ø or paid parking in the underground parking garage under the Z building.
