You can look forward to one of the most evocative cultural experiences of the year when Aarhus Summer Opera presents Benjamin Britten's gripping chamber opera Lucretia. On Saturday, September 5, 2026, you are invited inside Den Gamle By for a whole day dedicated to the world of opera. The action takes place in ancient Rome, where the tragic story of Lucretia unfolds against Britten's captivating music and a highly poetic text.
A day filled with insight and reflection
Before the performance itself begins in the beautiful Helsingør Theater, you will be thoroughly prepared for the work through two exciting lectures in Hobrohuset.
Introduction to the work: Mag.art. Leif VS Balthzersen, who has over 30 years of experience in music communication, introduces the composer Benjamin Britten and the structure of the opera.
Behind the scenes: You will meet the performance's director, Freja Friberg Lyme, who will give you an exclusive insight into the current production and its artistic choices.
Between the professional events, Den Gamle By will provide catering. You can look forward to coffee with the famous vanilla wreaths, and to end the afternoon, we will eat a classic shooting star together in Hetestalden before the curtain goes down for the evening's opera performance.
Included in the price: Two lectures, coffee and cake, dinner (shooting star with a glass of wine, beer or water) and a ticket to the opera.
