Get ready for an evening where vocal art and big band jazz merge in the Rhythmic Hall, when Michael Mayo – one of jazz's most promising voices – visits Musikhuset Aarhus in the company of the DR Big Band and their award-winning chief conductor Miho Hazama.
Michael Mayo is known for his warm, flexible and virtuoso voice, which has captivated audiences and jazz luminaries alike. With a background from the Thelonious Monk Institute and teachers such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Dianne Reeves, he has already made his mark on the international scene – and is often compared to the legend Bobby McFerrin.
The concert features genuine jazz standards in new, innovative arrangements – and songs from Mayo's critically acclaimed solo album Fly. The interaction between Mayo and the DR Big Band creates an experience where improvisation, intensity and musicality merge into a higher unity.
An evening with great sound, great voice and great musical presence – for both jazz connoisseurs and curious listeners.
