Meet Chilean Óscar Morales Martínez in his first international solo exhibition

There's something special about an opening, where you step into a universe that has been built up over a lifetime. On Thursday, June 4, Museum Ovartaci will open the first international solo exhibition with Chilean artist Óscar Morales Martínez, and you're invited from the very first hour.

Morales was born in Santiago in 1951, and for more than three decades he has drawn his way through life as a resident of a psychiatric hospital. Marker, saturated colors, patterns that repeat like breathing. In his works, architectural fantasies live side by side with everyday scenes and science fiction characters, and he has invented his own system of signs, his own visual grammar. Each work is both memory and narrative.

The exhibition is called The Line that Holds the World, in Spanish El trazO que sOstiene el mundO. The line that holds the world together. The title speaks for itself. In a time when much feels fragmented, Morales points to art as a place where meaning can still emerge. Not as aesthetics, but as necessity.

You can see his monumental machine series, artist books, handwritten poems and essays, as well as an audiovisual installation with the documentary film O de Óscar, which provides a rare insight into his process and life. The exhibition is curated by Paula Caballería Aguilera and produced by Beatriz Salinas Marambio in collaboration with the museum.

The opening itself is easy to attend.
At 5 pm, museum director Mia Lejsted and curator Paula Caballería welcome visitors, and at 5:20 pm, the doors to the exhibition open.
The museum hosts refreshments in the square in front, so there's good reason to linger.

The exhibition can be experienced until October 18, 2026, but the opening is only this one evening.
