Don Pasquale – opera with a twinkle in the eye

One of the most well-crafted comedies in opera history unfolds when Donizetti's Don Pasquale hits the Royal Danish Theatre's magnificent production. Get ready for intrigue, deception and love with a smile on your face.

The aging bachelor Don Pasquale dreams of young wives and beautiful children. But when he meets Norina – a modest and virtuous woman chosen by Doctor Malatesta – it quickly becomes clear to the audience (but not to Don Pasquale) that he is about to walk into a trap. For Norina is not quite who she claims to be, and Don Pasquale soon finds himself entangled in the game of his life.

Donizetti conjures up musicality in this comic opera, where tempo, irony and melodic excess make everything swing. It is a story about how true love – and perhaps a little revenge – puts everything in its place, and where the audience can both laugh and be carried away.

The Royal Danish Theatre and Glyndebourne are behind this energetic and visually powerful production, where acting and singing merge into a higher unity. The Aalborg Symphony Orchestra provides the music live, and the opera is sung in Italian with Danish subtitles.
