An evening at Det Glade Vanvid

It starts right from the moment you arrive at Det Glade Vanvid. We are greeted by dim lighting, the clinking of wine glasses and a hum of voices that lie like a warm blanket over the room. The tables are close together. There is nothing formal or solemn here – it just feels… nice and safe. It’s like walking into a big dinner party at someone’s place who has really been looking forward to seeing you.

We are shown to our table by the window by the smiling waiter. Outside, the boats gently rock in the harbor, and inside, in the warmth, the glasses are ready – clean, shiny, and lots of them. A small lamp casts a golden glow over the table. It is the first sign of the evening that attention to detail is paid here.

One of the biggest advantages of Det Glade Vanvid is the fixed concept. A single price covers both food and drinks ad libitum. You know exactly what you're paying – and there are no surprises when the bill comes due. This makes the place ideal for both birthdays and corporate events, where you want to have fun without having to think about your budget along the way. And because all guests get the same menu, you avoid the classic chaos when a party of six has to choose dishes. The food is served at the same time – and you can focus on the company and the atmosphere.

The first bite – and then we're off.

Already with the appetizer – shrimp on wheat kernel salad with foam and spring herbs – the shoulders start to sink. There are bubbles in the glass, smiles at the neighboring table and that special atmosphere where you know it's going to be a good evening.

We lean in a little towards each other and start talking. Not just at our own table. Little by little, the conversation spreads across the entire restaurant. To our right are three younger women, with whom we strike up a conversation. It starts with a comment about the wine – and ends in a conversation about politics, life experiences and the best bar by the harbor. And the evening has only just begun.

Food as a conversation starter

The starter lands in front of us, and we are silent for a moment. Cod with celery, rhubarb and a net of crispy malt coral, as fine as lace. It's almost a shame to ruin it – but we do it anyway. And the taste lives up to its appearance.

The main course continues the level – perhaps even with an extra boost. We settle down a little better, and the conversation stops for a moment when the plate is placed in front of us. Tender Danish pig, braised like shank, in a rich truffle-cloud sauce, topped with fresh peas and chives. We exchange glances – it smells fantastic. The dish strikes the perfect balance between green and powerful.

Between courses we move up to the wine bar to fill our glasses. We are recommended a wine by a waiter who points with a smile and tells us what goes best with the next course. Here it is anything but stiff. We are welcomed with warmth and humor – and a little twinkle in the eye.

The Happy Madness of Food

Together – separately

At the next table, Sanne is celebrating her birthday. “We were here last year too,” she says, smiling, as the family around her toasts. Her husband, Bertel, laughs and tells how he almost missed the main course last time because he was nerding out on wine at the bar. “But they’ve got it under control. I got the food – and more than one cake for my coffee afterwards,” he says, winking.

The staff has a calm overview. The food flows into the room at an even pace – enough so that we never get restless, but with room to talk, laugh and stretch our legs. After the main course, several people stand up. Some go out to smoke, others stand at the table and talk, as if at a big round birthday party. It doesn't feel like a restaurant. It feels like a party.

And the staff? They are not just waiters – they are part of the party. Smiling, welcoming and always present with a twinkle in their eye. They go from table to table, helping with wine recommendations, making small talk and making sure everyone feels welcome. It is clear that they enjoy being part of the experience – and it is contagious.

A party without a host – and yet with

We are served dessert. Peaches, mousse, sorbet and chocolate all on one plate. It is a finale that satisfies both the sweet tooth and the eye. And when we finally get coffee and caramel cake at the bar, we have almost forgotten that we started as guests and not as part of the party.

Because that's what Det Glade Vanvid can do. You come as a guest – but you leave with the feeling of having been part of something common. An experience where the food, the wine and the company merge together. Where you can sit back and just be. And that, honestly? It's actually quite wonderful.

Have you never been there – or are you just in need of a good night out?

Then Det Glade Vanvid might be your next stop. Grab a friend, a colleague, your mother or the whole group of friends and look forward to an evening where the food is the focus – but the community is what you remember afterwards.
