The Cathedral in Aarhus – sustainable townhouse, café and community by the harbor

In the middle of Pier 2 at Aarhus Harbour – between Bestseller and Navitas – you will find Domen Aarhus. A large, transparent dome built of sustainable wood, which houses a non-profit café, open events and a vibrant community. The Dome is not just a building, but an experience. A green breath of fresh air in the city, where community, sustainability and urban nature go hand in hand.

A townhouse with a view – and insight

The dome is built of cross-laminated solid wood, without the use of nails or screws. This not only provides a beautiful and organic structure – but also a movable and flexible building that can be adapted as needed. Inside, a warm, dome-shaped atmosphere awaits with sofas, lounge furniture and long tables, where you can enjoy the view of Aarhus Harbour, regardless of the season.

On the ground floor you can sit down with a cup of coffee or a light meal from the social café while enjoying the peace and the view. On the first floor there is the opportunity to hold meetings, work in study groups or just enjoy the silence under the dome with panoramic views of the city and the water.

Café with meaning – charity and good taste

Domens Café is run as a non-profit and serves light, green dishes as well as cold and hot drinks. What's unique? All profits go to charity. Here you can take a break, have a cup of coffee or eat a light meal with a clear conscience, knowing that your support makes a difference.

The quality in the café is high, and the focus is on sustainable and local ingredients. It is a place where you can enjoy something simple and honest – and at the same time be part of something bigger.

Life in the dome – events and communal dining

The cathedral is not only an architectural landmark, but also a cultural and social gathering point. Every week the place buzzes with life with, among other things:

  • Shared meals twice a week
  • Yoga, dance and creative workshops
  • Lectures, concerts and events

The program is diverse and open – and it is easy to follow new events via the Dome's Facebook page.

Whether you're a local or a visitor, Domen is a place where you quickly feel at home. It's built for the city – but owned by the community.

A beautiful experience – day and night

During the day, the Dome is bright, green and lively – at night it becomes a magical luminous dome, reflected in the dark water of the harbor. When the sun sets, a very special calm and atmosphere emerges that must be experienced.

The combination of scenic harbor views, subdued lighting, and calm music makes the Dome an ideal place for both reflection and socializing. Here it is possible to find a break in the middle of the city – without leaving it.

City gardens and green surroundings

Around the Dome, Pier 2 City Gardens spreads out like a green oasis. Here are raised beds, edible plants and a budding community of volunteers and city gardeners who have together transformed a former industrial port into a green cultural site.

The gardens create a natural and charming environment around the Dome and invite you to take a walk, find a quiet spot in the sun or enjoy your coffee under the open sky.

The Cathedral in Aarhus is a sustainable city hall and cultural venue in one.
Here you can participate in communal dining, enjoy an organic coffee, explore the city gardens and feel the tranquility under the dome – in the middle of the city and close to the sea.
