The Permanent Bathing Institution
Salonvejen 1, 8240 Risskov
Den Permanente is Aarhus' most iconic sea bath.
The Permanente Badeanstalt is beautifully situated between Riis Skov and Aarhus Bay and has been a popular bathing spot for generations. It has a beach, bathing jetties and historic buildings where you can enjoy a summer day by the water or take a dip all year round.
After the latest expansion, Den Permanente offers even better facilities. In the summer, the area is a popular excursion destination for both Aarhusians and visitors, while the winter baths keep the spa alive during the cold months.

Practical
A bathing establishment with space for both summer and winter
Den Permanente first opened in 1933. Although the bathhouse has been renovated several times, it is still the long wooden buildings that give the place its special character. When you step through the gate, it almost feels like entering a small beach in its own world.
During the summer months, the swimming pool is open to everyone, and the beach is filled with people who come to swim, sunbathe or enjoy the view of Aarhus Bay. The rest of the year, Sydbadet is home to the winter swimming pools of the Vikingeklubben Jomsborg, while Nordbadet is open to anyone who wants a dip in the cold water.
Beach, bathing jetties and Riis Forest right outside
Although Den Permanente is known for the bathing establishment itself, the experience continues outside. On both sides of the area you will find small beach areas where you can sit down with a view of the bay. Riis Forest goes almost all the way down to the water and provides shelter on windy days, while the coastal path makes it easy to walk or cycle here from Aarhus C and Risskov.
Many also choose to sit on the wall along the beach, where there is a view of the water and the life that unfolds on the beach.
A whole day by the water
The Permanente is designed for long summer days. Here you will find changing rooms, toilets, bathing jetties and a kiosk, so you can easily stay by the water from morning to evening. At the kiosk you can buy ice cream, cold drinks, barbecued food and coffee if you left the food basket at home.
The combination of good facilities, the protected beach and the location close to the city makes Den Permanente one of the most popular bathing spots in Aarhus.
