Christiansbjerg is an established residential area with smaller mason's houses and terraced houses from the 30s and 40s, mixed with modern apartments and youth housing. In the older parts of the area, it is mainly inhabited by families who have lived there for a long time and for many from when they were young until they are now old.

For the 23.000 inhabitants, it is a residential area and if you fancy an evening out to eat, then it is to the center or one of the other nearby areas such as Risskov or Trøjborg. And if you need to get to the city centre, it's just on the bike and down the hill, and you're quickly in the city centre.

Katrinebjerg, also known as the IT city in Aarhus, is part of the district. Katrinebjerg is an innovative IT area and has become somewhat of an independent unit in the district.

Housing at Christiansbjerg

New homes are still being built in the area, and it is also with the various educations in mind that 390 youth homes with associated underground parking are being built on the corner of Kathrinebjergvej and Møllevangsallé.

A feature of Christiansbjerg is the 38-metre-high Water Tower on Randersvej, which stands right next to Århus Academy. It is also the Academy that today owns the Water Tower and uses it for teaching and administration.

Another educational institution that has found new roots at Katrinebjerg is Denmark's Medie- og Journalisthøjskole (DMJX). In 2020, they opened the doors in a new building after moving from Skejby.

Restaurants at Christiansbjerg

There are a few eateries in the district. But even if it is not what Christiansbjerg offers the most, you can go to Storcenter Nord with its 60 shops, including supermarkets.

At the same time, there are plans for Storcenter Nord to be expanded with more shops and a cinema and private residences. 

And then, of course, there are also schools for both the smaller children and students. You will find nurseries, kindergartens and primary schools in the area.

Vestereng and exercise

It is not just housing and Tech areas that you will find here. You can also go hiking in the protected nature area Vestereng. A forest and meadow area located north of Christiansbjerg. In Vestereng there is a rich animal and plant life and it is also possible to see some of the rarer animals in the area. And if you are a dog owner, you must walk the dog without a leash as long as you have control over it. Should you fancy a night or two, there are free shelters with fire pits.

If you like it more indoors or have children, the Århus Skøjtehal is also in the area. And during the opening period there is an ice disco every month, with loud music and lots of colored lights.
In the Christiansbjerg hall right next to it, it is possible to play handball, football and badminton.
If you take the bus, stop bus 6A just outside Skøjtehallen and thus also close to Vestereng forest.

Overtaci

Museum Ovartaci, located on Christiansbjerg, takes its point of departure in psychiatry from the former psychiatric hospital in Risskov. Here are i.a. exhibition from the artist Ovartaci, who was hospitalized for 56 years.

You can also see a collection of effects from the former hospital and of course exhibitions from other artists. 

The IT city

In the new IT-byen district there are many educational institutions and you will also find the College of Engineering. The entire IT city has a context where both companies and researchers collaborate. Together with the many programs from Aarhus University, located in the district. This makes it the leader in international IT research.

Incuba is located in the IT city, where you will find a multitude of companies within IT. 
Google Århus, Microsoft, Startväkst Århus and many more exciting companies are located in Incuba. All in the same industry within IT. It helps to provide sparring and a good network with the individual companies.

The garden association

Close to Vestereng forest and behind tall trees is a garden association. But it is more than just a garden association. Because here you cultivate a common interest.

If you walk around among the allotment gardens, you will notice the many pigeons perched on the houses. This is where the carrier pigeon colony Dybkjær resides. With the one common interest in carrier pigeons and competitions. Because this is where races are taken out and held. 

Although there is quite a bit of competition between the houses, there is also good unity here. And for many, they have had an interest in homing pigeons for many years.

The Finn houses

In a small area of ​​Christiansbjerg is a cozy and idyllic area with just over 100 wooden houses. The so-called Finnehuses, which were built just after the war from wood from Finland. The houses were relatively cheap and quickly became popular to buy.

In addition to the fact that the wood for the houses came from Finland, all the street names are named after towns in Bornholm, such as Gudhjemsvej, Neksøvej and Åkirkebyvej. And you also get the feeling of a mini Bornholm when you walk around the idyllic neighbourhood.

Purchasing options

In Storcenter Nord there are 60 specialist shops and supermarkets. There are also eateries and take away restaurants.

In the center the streets are divided into colours, such as red, yellow, orange, small etc. This makes it easier for you to find your way around the centre.

If you come by bus, it is bus 2A that you must hop on.
If you have smaller children, the center is a good place to spend a few hours with the children. Here they can frolic in the large playland located in the centre.

Randersvej

At the main approach road Randersvej you will find both Netto and Rema. Flügger colors and McDonald's are also located here. And there are no less than 4 gas stations here.

At Randersvej you can jump on the Light Rail if you are going to and from Christiansbjerg.
