Botanical Garden: Nature, Greenhouses and green experiences in Aarhus
The Botanical Garden is one of Aarhus' largest parks with 17 hectares of green areas, historic trees, lakes, the Greenhouses and views of the Old City.
One of Aarhus' most visited parks
The Botanical Garden is located a few minutes' walk from the center of Aarhus and has been a green gathering point for the city's citizens since 1875. The park contains protected natural areas, theme gardens, the Greenhouses, historic buildings and large lawns, which are used extensively year-round.

Historic surroundings in the middle of the city
The Botanical Garden was established in 1875 and today covers around 17 hectares. The park is located right next to the Old Town, and in several places you have views of the historic buildings, which form a special backdrop for the garden.
At the entrance stands the listed Tuesbøl Mill from 1792, which was moved here from West Jutland. Together with the old trees and winding paths, it helps tell the story of one of Aarhus' oldest green areas.
The greenhouses and botanical collections
The Botanical Garden is closely linked to the Greenhouses, where plants from different climate zones are gathered under one roof. Outside, the experience continues in the botanical collections, where trees, shrubs and perennials from large parts of the world grow side by side.
Along the paths, plant signs tell about the origin of the species, and the area is used by visitors, students and plant enthusiasts who want to learn more about the diversity of botany.
Trees, lakes and changing seasons
With more than 1.100 trees and shrubs, the Botanical Garden changes character throughout the year. Spring offers crocuses, bulb plants and blooming rhododendrons, while summer fills the lawns with picnics, games and relaxation.
In the fall, the many trees change color, and in the winter, the rolling hills and bare branches become a completely different experience. The park is therefore a place that many return to again and again.
Wildlife in the middle of Aarhus
Even though the Botanical Garden is located in the middle of the city, there is a rich wildlife. The lakes attract ducks and other birds, squirrels are often seen between the old trees, and at dusk you may be lucky enough to see bats flying through the treetops.
The varied vegetation makes the park an important habitat for birds, insects and small mammals.
A park that is used all year round
The Botanical Garden is much more than a botanical collection. Runners, dog walkers, students, families with children and pensioners meet here every day. The large lawns are used for picnics and ball games, while the paths are popular with both exercisers and walkers.
During Aarhus Festival Week and other events, parts of the park are also used for cultural activities and events.
Practical information about the Botanical Garden
Parking at the park
There is up to 5 hours of free parking at Poppelpladsen by the Botanical Garden. Drive along Peter Holms Vej to get to the parking area.
Public transport
Buses 3A, 14 and 44 stop at Viborgvej, from where it is a few minutes' walk to the Botanical Garden.
Kiosk
In the Væksthusene you will find a café and kiosk where you can buy coffee, ice cream, light meals and drinks. It is normally open every day from 10 am to 17 pm.
Public toilets
There are public toilets by the Amfi stage in the corner. And at the entrance to the Old Town at the bottom of the park.
Playgrounds
The Botanical Garden has two playgrounds. One is located at Peter Holms Vej, while the other is located at Mønsgade close to Den Gamle By.
