Ballehage Beach is one of Aarhus' most popular beaches.
There is something special about Ballehage Strand. The Marselisborg forests lie right down to the water, the Infinite Bridge reaches out into the bay, and even on hot summer days there is room to find a quiet corner.
It is a beach where many people come to swim, but just as many come to take a walk along the coast, have lunch in the shade or enjoy the view over Aarhus Bay. The combination of forest, beach and historical surroundings makes Ballehage one of those places that you return to again and again.
The Infinity Bridge has become a landmark
Most people associate Ballehage Beach with the Infinite Bridge. Every spring, the circular wooden bridge is rebuilt, and throughout the summer it is a natural gathering point for both Aarhusians and visitors.
Some jump into the water from the bridge, others sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view, while many just walk all the way around. If you come late in the day, you may be lucky enough to experience the sun setting over the bay. It is one of the places where Aarhus shows itself from its very best side.
More than a beach
Ballehage is not just about sand and sea water. A few minutes' walk from the beach is Dyrehaven, where fallow deer roam freely among the old oak trees, and right by the beach is the beautiful Varna Palæ with a restaurant and views over the water.
At the entrance to the beach, a small stream runs through the forest and under the red bridge before ending in the sea. It's a small detail, but one that gives the area its very own atmosphere.
If you are fresh in the morning, you will also pass the bridge, where members of the Viking Association Morgenbaderne start the day with a trip in the water all year round.
Worth a visit all year round
Although the beach is bustling with life in the summer, Ballehage is just as beautiful the rest of the year. The autumn colours in the forest, winter bathers in the cold water and quiet walks along the coast make the area an ideal destination, regardless of the season.

Parking
Free parking at the beach and the Deer Park.
Public transport
Bus 31 stops close to Varna and Dyrehaven.
Child-friendly beach
Yes. The shallow water close to the shore makes the beach suitable for families with children. As always, children should be supervised in the water.
Food and drinks
During the summer, coffee carts often stop at Varna and Dyrehaven. Restaurant Varna is a few minutes' walk from the beach.
Bathing piers
Ballehage has two bathing jetties. The Infinite Bridge, which is set up in the spring and taken down again in the autumn. And a permanent bathing jetty at the Viking Association Morgenbaderne, which is used year-round.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a leash.
Toilets
Public toilets are available at Dyrehaven.
