You will meet porpoises, seals and fish, learn about the rocky reef in Aarhus Bay and gain insight into the ecosystem that has helped shape the area over thousands of years. The exhibition is designed so that both children and adults can explore at their own pace, and in several places you can delve further using the Useeum app, which provides additional stories directly on your phone.

One of the installations that particularly attracts attention is based on the story of Marens Røvhul. The unusual name refers to a former sewer outlet where Aarhus for many years discharged its wastewater directly into the bay. Today, the story has become a humorous installation where children can crawl through a giant toilet and at the same time learn about the city's development and environmental history.

A film that gives a new meaning to the view

In the middle of the exhibition is a large map of Aarhus. Here, a 12-minute film is shown, taking you from the Viking Age to modern Aarhus.

The story moves past the Cathedral, the harbor, Dokk1, the Marselisborg forests and the neighborhoods that have helped shape the city through generations. Small ships move across the map in time with the story, and when the film ends, it's hard not to see Aarhus with slightly different eyes.

This is also where the experience gets its common thread. When you later stand on top of Lighthouse and look out over the city, you recognize many of the places you have just heard about. The view therefore becomes more than a beautiful panorama. It becomes a continuation of the story of Aarhus.
