Åkrogen Strandpark

Åkrogs Strandvej, 8240 Risskov

Åkrogen Strandpark with a beach life with plenty of space

Åkrogen Strandpark is located between Rice forest and Egå and is one of those beaches where you never feel like you're on top of the other guests. Here, sandy beach and large grassy areas alternate, so you can choose whether to spend the day on a blanket in the grass or right down by the water.

The wide beach and open areas make Åkrogen a popular excursion destination for families, exercise enthusiasts and those who just want to enjoy a day at Aarhus Bay.

A beach with room for both relaxation and activity

On hot summer days the beach gets packed with bathers, beach volleyball, picnics and barbecues, but there is still plenty of space. The large grassy areas make it easy to find a quiet corner, and many choose to linger all day.

The beach has a sandy bottom with a few stones along the water's edge, and several bathing jetties make it easy to get into the water.

A popular spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing

When the wind picks up, the beach changes character. Åkrogen is one of the most popular places in Aarhus for kitesurfing and windsurfing, and it is not unusual to see colorful kites soaring over the bay.

Aarhus Windsurf Club is located right by the beach, and the area is used year-round by both beginners and experienced water sports enthusiasts.

Beach park with activities for the whole family

Åkrogen is more than just a beach. Here you will find a beach volleyball court, outdoor fitness equipment and a natural playground where children can play while adults enjoy the view of the bay.

The wide paths also make it an ideal place to take a walk along the coast or continue towards Egå Marina or Den Permanente.

A beach with international fame

In 2008, Åkrogen Strandpark was highlighted by the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail as one of the world's ten best beaches. The reason given was the combination of Nordic nature, open surroundings and the active beach life of the Danes.

Even today, it is precisely this mix that characterizes the place. There is room for both a quiet day by the water and an active afternoon with sports and games.
