Aarhus has everything. The nature, the water and the harbor and city life. And the best thing is that it's all within reach and a short distance away. Without having to start the car and drive many kilometres, you can easily combine a forest trip with a trip past the water and experience harbor life, then finish in the city center and soak up all the city's buzz.

Find a cozy place to eat and end the day's experience tour with something good to eat. The trip is perfect if you have visitors and want to show off a bit of the city or if you just want a "tapas day with everything good from the sea".

We start in Rii's forest

Starting in Rii's forest is definitely also a good starting point for a successful trip. Because you can only be uplifted completely when you walk around the beautiful forest. No matter what time of year, Rii's forest is a pleasure to visit. In the spring, when the thousands of ramsons cover the forest floor and spread their fragrance throughout the forest. It is not an unnatural sight that you see other Aarhusians almost crawling around the forest floor to take pictures of the green carpet with the bulbs waving at the base of the trees.

Or in the summer, when wood mice dart across the paths and you can sit on the benches while enjoying the sun and the view over the bay of Aarhus. Here you can see the Molsfærgen sail by or turn your head a little to the right and look out over Århus Island. The forest is also fantastic in autumn, when the golden colors adorn the trees and cover the forest floor. And of course in winter, when the leaves have fallen and the forest suddenly reveals the more hidden "treasures" that you normally don't notice in summer.

Besides trees, Rii's forest has much else to offer. Here are bunkers from when the Germans occupied Denmark. You can see the memorial stone for the two meteor stones that were found in Rii's forest back in the 50s and the 3 memorial stones for Queen Margrethe's death in 1412. There is also a large tumble area with a bonfire and hut, where both adults and children can play the time of play and fun.

After your tour of the forest, it is definitely recommended to go towards the yacht harbor on the path furthest towards the water. The view here is absolutely phenomenal and almost unreal. If you have the coffee with you, it is a good idea to find a bench and just sit down for a while and really soak up the whole experience. You can also sit at the large seats right by the lookout point, which is on the edge of the forest and enjoy the view down to the harbor and Århus Island.

Continues at the Yacht Harbor

After your forest trip, it's time to come down and experience harbor life and take a look at the many ships and yachts that fill up the harbor. Remember to keep an eye out for cyclists, because just like in the rest of Aarhus, they speed past on the paths and here you have to cross a couple of cycle paths before you reach the harbour.

The first thing that meets you is the wooden ship harbour. And it's not just any shipping port. Århus wooden ship harbor is the Nordics' largest port of call for wooden ships and even if you are not very knowledgeable about ships, it is still an experience to walk around among the beautiful wooden ships with the tall masts swaying in the wind.

It is also here on the harbor that you will find the city's two fish houses with fish you had no idea existed. Of course you can also buy a plaice, but it is now a slightly bigger experience to see the slightly more exotic fish in the fridge.

Should hunger or thirst sneak up on you, just take it easy. Here at the harbor there are plenty of opportunities to satisfy both hunger and thirst. Even if you may not be a big fan of fish, many other delicacies are also served. If the weather is good, all the places have outdoor seating, right down to the first floor by the water. And you will find both a brewery and a wine bar on both sides of the harbor quay. Remember to also take the trip over to the opposite side of the harbor quay, from where you came from the forest, to get the whole experience.

On the opposite side of the quay is also Århus Island, but this is not where the trip ends this time. Of course, you can choose to take the trip around the district, but in this article we have chosen to end in the street.

Ending in the city

There are several options for entering the stretch from the marina. You can choose to walk past Navitas and Dokk1 or you can walk towards Østbanen and through the Latin Quarter.

It's always good to have options and here both routes are a pleasure, so take the one you feel like when you have to choose.

Inside the street in Aarhus, there is plenty of buzz and you can choose whether the Dankort should be taken out and aired and a few hours should be spent shopping.
